In Hindu astrology, the nine planets (Navagrahas) are believed to influence every aspect of human life—health, wealth, relationships, career, and even spiritual progress. When these celestial bodies are malefic or positioned unfavorably in one’s birth chart (Janam Kundli), they can cause obstacles and disturbances. To counteract their negative effects, Hindu scriptures recommend Grah Shanti—a set of spiritual remedies aimed at pacifying these planetary energies.

Understanding the Navagrahas

The nine planets in Hindu astrology are:

  1. Surya (Sun) – Signifies soul, authority, vitality

  2. Chandra (Moon) – Represents mind, emotions, mother

  3. Mangal (Mars) – Governs energy, courage, aggression

  4. Budh (Mercury) – Deals with intellect, communication

  5. Guru (Jupiter) – Symbolizes wisdom, fortune, spirituality

  6. Shukra (Venus) – Connected to love, beauty, luxury

  7. Shani (Saturn) – Linked with discipline, karma, delays

  8. Rahu – Shadow planet, brings material obsessions and confusion

  9. Ketu – Shadow planet, brings detachment, spiritual insight

Each planet has a specific role in a person’s destiny. When a planet is weakened (debilitated), afflicted by malefics, or involved in a dosha (flaw) like Shani Dosh, Mangal Dosh, or Rahu-Ketu Dosh, it may cause troubles. This is where Grah Shanti comes in.
